Greetings all,

As some might have surmised, I'm a bit enthusiastic about getting ZFS on Gentoo to be a stable, reliable configuration. To that end, I've been working on creating instructions for setting up ZFS root on Gentoo. I'm not sure if there are many folks in the world (much less on-list) who are looking to use ZFS on a Gentoo system, but I wanted to share what I've put together so far, all based on the new 0.6.0-rc5 release.

https://github.com/pendor/gentoo-zfs-install

At that github project are instructions for creating a Gentoo livecd with ZFS support integrated as well as both migration and fresh install tutorials for getting Gentoo running with its root filesystem on ZFS. Thus far, I'm still using ext2 /boot partitions, but I'm looking into the status of the GRUB 1.99 tree to see if I can get its ZFS support working.

I have managed to run through these instructions to setup working systems, but it's likely that I've glossed over at least a few parts as I've been running through them repeatedly over the last couple of weeks. If anyone else is feeling adventurous and wants to give these a try, I'd welcome any feedback or corrections.

Best regards,
Zac Bedell

Oh...you are so under-estimating the power of Gentoo....:D

I am a fellow Gentoo-er here. You can find me on gentoo forums with
the same ID.
